Navistar International Corp. and TuSimple, an autonomous truck startup, announced a partnership that will co-develop semi-driving self-driving trucks targeted for production until 2024.
The two companies worked together under a technology-sharing relationship for several years. In addition, Lisle, Ill-based Navistar took a minority stake in TuSimple, located in San Diego, Calif.
Autonomous technology is entering our industry, and it will have a profound impact on the business of our customers, “said Persio Lisboa, chief executive of Navistar.
He said the partnership will leverage collective expertise to integrate our vehicle design and system integration capabilities with the innovative autonomous technology developed by TuSimple.
The trucks will bear the Navistar International Truck Line badge and logos.
It unveiled an agreement earlier this month to team up with UPS and other major trucking players to organize what it says will be the first autonomous freight network.
